Electricity demand varies significantly at different times of the day and in different seasons. Since generated electricity cannot be stored on a large scale, our engineers at the power plants play a critical role in managing the fuel mix as well as the operation of the generating units. Their goal is to ensure that Hong Kong’s electricity demand is fully met in an efficient and environmentally-friendly way.
Our engineers work in shifts to closely monitor the performance of a highly automated operation. They determine which fuel source to be used, when and how many generators to be turned on or shut down. They also perform generator maintenance to ensure the generators operate with the required performance and efficiency.
On the other hand, our engineers’ work is complemented by the business operational team responsible for short- and medium-term plant investments and operational planning. Additionally, a group of dedicated personnel also manages from safety, health and environmental issues to hazard control and risk assessment.
