    What is an electric vehicle?
    Electric vehicles use batteries as the primary energy source and recharge from an external grid. For more details, please refer to the “What is it” section.

    What are the benefits of electric vehicles?
    Electric vehicles are generally considered to be one of the most environmentally-friendly type of vehicles for they have no tailpipe emissions. They are also more energy efficient, economical, quieter and smoother than their gasoline counterparts. For more details, please refer to the “Benefits of using EV” section.

    What are the differences between plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and pure electric vehicles?
    Pure electric vehicles are 100% propelled by the electric motor, which in turn draws its power from the battery. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles use a combination of grid electricity and power from an internal combustion engine to propel the vehicle. When the battery is depleted, the gasoline engine kicks in as back up.

    How far can an electric vehicle travel on one charge?
    The traveling range of an electric vehicle may vary depending on the car design and battery capacity. A few automakers claim that their vehicles can travel up to 300km on one single charge, but In general, many electric private cars nowadays can travel for well over 100km per charge.

    Currently, how much do we need to pay by using CLP’s EV charging stations?
    To promote the wider adoption of EV in Hong Kong, CLP Power is offering free charging in all CLP standard, semi-quick and quick EV charging stations till the end of 2017.

    Are there any financial incentives for purchasing electric vehicles?

    Can I take the battery home for charging?
    Normally, most electric cars have their chargers built on-board with fixed battery, which means it is not possible to remove it from the car. In addition, for safety reason it is also not desirable for car owners to handle the battery by themselves.

    Can all Electric Vehicles use CLP's EV charging station for charging?
    Existing most of the Electric Vehicles available in Hong Kong can use the 220V, 13A socket outlets in CLP's standard EV charging station for charging; nevertheless, the 6 quick chargers are only compatible for the EVs manufactured by Mitsubishi, Nissan or other vehicles complied with the CHAdeMO Standard. To facilitate multiple types of electric vehicles’ adoption in Hong Kong, CLP has launched semi-quick chargers with American SAE standard and European IEC standard sockets in 2012.

    How many CLP's EV charging locations are there currently?

    There are 31 standard/semi-quick and 14 quick charging stations in CLP’s supply area by Nov 2016. Please refer to List of CLP EV Charging Stations.
