CLP Explores Opportunities for Carbon Neutrality at the Technical Seminar of Data Centre Decarbonisation from Design to Operation

In an era of increasing digitalisation, data centres’ round-the-clock server operations require continuous cooling, resulting in a higher intensity of energy consumption, is a major electricity consumer that directly impact climate change. Decarbonisation has risen to the forefront of combating environmental issues, and industries are now seeking ways to make data centres more sustainable.

The Technical Seminar of Data Centre Decarbonisation from Design to Operation, jointly organised by ASHRAE Hong Kong Chapter and Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI) with support from CLP, was held on 24 September 2024 attracting around 220 participants. The seminar invited energy experts and professionals  to explore strategies for achieving energy efficiency and carbon neutrality, supporting the city’s decarbonisation journey.

In the technical seminar, speakers from CLP and other organizations shared their valuable insights on achieving decarbonisation at different stages of data centre development, from planning and design to construction and operation. A highlight of the event was CLP presenting the results of Air Flow Optimisation Best Practices, in collaboration with Equinix and PolyU, which thoroughly engaged the audience and generated many interesting questions. Moreover, CLP also encouraged thought-provoking discussions on how to power up a carbon-neutral Hong Kong.

Overall, the seminar was a great success and many stakeholders expressed their interest in exploring future business partnerships with CLP to support their individual decarbonisation targets.

We look forward to teaming up with more industry partners to discover energy-efficient innovations, supporting Hong Kong's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
