Moving Towards Electrification

Have you ever wondered how much greenhouse gas you produce with your daily commute? The transport industry accounts for around 18% of Hong Kong’s carbon emissions. CLP believes electrification is the key to reducing emissions and supports an electrified Mass Transit Railway system that provides more than six million journeys a day.

To achieve the vision of zero vehicular emissions in Hong Kong before 2050, CLP is working with the Government and stakeholders to support e-transport trials of buses, minibuses, taxis, and ferries. Our strategy will be adjusted from time to time to keep abreast of the new development of electric vehicle (EV) charging technology. Meanwhile, CLP Power has established a network of 54 semi-quick and quick charging stations with a total of 161 chargers in Kowloon, New Territories, and Lantau, providing free charging for EV users until the end of 2022.

In November 2020, CLP Power launched the advanced service Eco Charge 2.0 to support the Government’s EV-charging at Home Subsidy Scheme. The service provides one-stop technical support and customer service to applicants interested in applying for funding for EV charging infrastructure in the car parks of private residential blocks.
