3. Power: the higher, the better?

Do electric cars need to be charged every day? I heard that electric vehicles do not need to be charged daily.

Actually, you don’t need to. The range of electric vehicles is really strong! 1 kilowatt-hour (1 kWh) can drive about 5-6 kilometers. Assuming the battery capacity is 65 kWh, using a medium-speed charger (single-phase 32 amps at 7 kW) for 4-6 hours of charging can allow you to drive about 140-210 kilometers.

Taking a daily commute example, if you drive back and forth from Sheung Shui and Sham Shui Po (about 72 kilometers) every day, you would only need to charge about 2-3 times a week. As long as you charge according to your driving habits, you don’t need to charge every day; that will cover most of your daily travel needs!"

*According to the Consumer Council's Choice Monthly Magazine Issue No. 579, the average energy consumption of 15 small to large family electric vehicles is 20 kWh per 100 km. (=1 kWh per 5 km)

Note: The range of electric vehicles and the average charging cost are affected by various factors, including vehicle battery capacity, load weight, fuel efficiency, road conditions, and driving modes.
