Increase renewable energy system capacity

If you intend to increase your system’s capacity, find out what you need to do and how to calculate your new Feed-in Tariff rate.

What you need to do

Before you change your Renewable Energy (RE) system’s capacity, you should inform us through an application form.

How your FiT rate will be adjusted

We will determine the new rate for your renewable energy system on a pro-rated basis. The new rate will reference:

  • The aggregate generation capacity of your existing RE system; and
  • The generation capacity of the additional RE system.

New FiT rate = [(C1 x R1) + (C2 X R2)] / (C1 + C2)

Legend:

  • C1 = Generation capacity of the existing RE system
  • R1 = FiT rate applicable to C1
  • C2 = Generation capacity of the additional RE system
  • R2 = FiT rate applicable to the total generation capacity of the new RE system

Example

The table below lists sample FiT rates (for illustration purposes only):

Year
≤10kW
>10kW to ≤200kW
>200kW to 1MW

2020

$5/kWh

$4/kWh

$3/kWh

2021

$3/kWh

$2.6/kWh

$2.2/kWh

A registered customer’s existing RE system has a capacity of 8kW. The applicable FiT rate is $5/kWh. If he increases his RE system’s capacity by 8kW, the total capacity of the new RE system is 16kW.

The table below summarises the key details for the new FiT rate formula:

C2

R2

Assuming he increases the capacity on 1 February 2021, the new FiT rate is:

[(8 x $5) + (8 x $2.6)] / (8 + 8) = $3.8/kWh
